Ear Cast Drawing Progress

Cast drawing: drawing sight-size from a three-dimensional with Nitram Fusains charcoal. Here is the progress over the past few weeks since the start of the third trimester. After completing the Bargue drawings, this is the second thing that I wanted to learn at the Angel Academy which is only available during their full-time semesters.

With all of the issues with my neck/shoulder/arm, the third trimester was definitely up in the air during our two week spring break at the end of March/beginning of April. Some days I would feel great and think, “I could so do this!” On other days, I solemnly thought, “Who am I kidding? There is no way that I could do this and maybe I should just come home.”

Of course, some much needed time with my loving husband helped a lot.

I am so glad that I decided to stick it out, continue with physical therapy, stretch and ice three to five times a day with some occasional ibuprofen.  I think that I would have kicked myself later, if I decided not to finish the third trimester knowing that I was right there!!!!!!

It is ironic that my first cast is an ear since I have to devote an extreme amount of attention to listening to my body now and knowing when to take a break. I am in tune with my body normally, but I think that the time it took to actually get a diagnosis and valid treatment coupled with the stress of ‘not getting fixed right away’, has prolonged the injury. On many days at school, I just have to take longer breaks and this has been and continues to be a lesson in patience and taking it slower instead of fitting in as much as I can. Finally, I have seen a good reduction in the swelling but I have a long way to go. This effects everything that do from reading a book, to using the computer, to getting dressed and stretching canvas (found that one out yesterday). All of the simple daily tasks….

If I only finish the ear cast instead of two casts, I will be more than happy with that.

Since May is just around the corner, I have only one month left before I leave Florence and onto the next adventure…
